Israeli agents confess to spying on Hezbollah

(Press TV) -- Three suspects recently arrested in southern Lebanon have admitted that they had provided Israeli agents with intelligence on Hezbollah.

Two Lebanese and a Palestinian who were arrested during a raid on their homes in Sidon, confessed that they have transferred intelligence to Israel's Mossad agency, Lebanese Al-Akhbar reported Tuesday.

According to the daily, their alleged espionage was exposed during an investigation of General Adib al-Alam, a retired Lebanese officer who was arrested over spying for Israel.

The suspects identified as Ali Hussein Mantash, Robert Edmond Kfoury and Mohammad Ibrahim Awad, according to the Lebanese daily As-Safir, are accused of working with two separate espionage cells in southern country.

According to security sources, the suspects' cars - each fitted with tracking devices -along with cell phones and computers from their homes have been impounded.

The Lebanese media reported over the weekend that a special counter-intelligence unit set up two years ago with the exclusive aim of breaking up Israeli spy rings in Lebanon uncovered the cells.

Lebanon successfully foiled an Israeli spy ring in recent weeks, comprising of 12 members, with the retired general as the head of the network.
