(Novinite) -- An Iranian-American journalist accused as US spy has been jailed for eight years by Iran,
That was announced Saturday by her lawyer says, as cited by the BBC.
31-year-old Roxana Saberi was arrested in January and went on trial Monday, April 13.
She originally faced the less serious accusations of buying alcohol, then working as a journalist without a valid press card. Iranian prosecutors accused her, though, of spying for the US.
Saberi worked briefly for the BBC three years ago. She has also worked for the American public radio network NPR and the TV network Fox News.
